Jedi Formation / Jedi Order of the “Temple of Light”
Jedi Formation (also known as the Jedi Order of the “Temple of Light”) is a lightsaber martial arts club founded in 2003 in Minsk. We’re a volunteer community that trains together, develops its own fencing technique, and has stayed alive for over twenty years not because of a trend, but because of the people who genuinely care about it.
The idea started with the Star Wars universe, but it’s long since taken on a life of its own: we have our own technical program, our own training system, and our own answer to “why bother.”
What we do
At the core is JMA (Jedi Martial Arts) - a system of lightsaber fencing and related disciplines developed in-house, ranging from choreographed performance to full-contact sparring. The technique was built, and keeps evolving, at the intersection of traditional, sport, and applied combat styles - we keep what works and drop what doesn’t.
Beyond the physical side, the club has a long-standing tradition of theory sessions and group discussion - not an obligatory “spiritual layer,” but a habit of asking why we train, not just going through the motions.
How we’re organized
Inside, it’s an Order: a clear rank system (from Novice to Magister - see the “Rank System” page), a Charter, regular training sessions, and Conventions. This isn’t a nostalgia fan club or a LARP - it’s a club with its own structure, history, and expectations for anyone who wants to grow within it.
We’re deliberately not a religious, political, or commercial organization. Participation is voluntary, and rank is earned - not bought or handed out based on who you know.
Where Star Wars fits in
We don’t pretend the Star Wars universe is real, and we don’t cosplay its characters. The image of the Jedi is a useful frame and a source of inspiration for us: stories about discipline, self-control, and the balance between power and responsibility resonate with what we do in training. What you take from that and leave on the screen is up to you.
The club and everyday life
We don’t treat training as separate from everyday life - we build it into it. Meetups and training sessions run on a schedule, take real time and discipline, but remain something worth carving out a weeknight for. The club has lasted over twenty years precisely because it doesn’t try to replace everything else - only to add to it.
“Someone once said we’re the first generation of Jedi.”
